Last week I hit Oklahoma again on my regular travels, this time focusing on eastern and southeastern regions. I visited Robbers Cave State Park just northwest of Wilburton for a night of camping and day of hiking, then moved to Cedar Lake, a forest service campground just south of Heavener. It’s about 15 miles north of the amazing Talimena National Scenic Byway. I shot some video, took a few stills, and recorded some timelapse action. Oh, and I did some spiritual things along the way, too. Enjoying the beauty of the San Bois and Ouachita Mountains was a spiritual retreat for me. It’s amazing how well creation declares the glory of the Lord. Here are a few of my stills. Video will come later.
Campground light meets celestial light at Robbers Cave State Park. The RV/tent campground was anything but dark, with a store, vending machines, and streetlights. The stars were still there, though! Those green orbs at top, by the way, are the result of lens flare.
It’s hard to beat a campfire. Recent rains in eastern Oklahoma lifted a long-standing burn ban at campgrounds. This was my first campfire in over a year.
Nightscape over Cedar Lake. See the shooting star to the left? I didn’t until I saw the image when I got home.
View from the Emerald Vista, Talimena Scenic Drive.
Nightscape at Cedar Lake. A dock light to the right was cating a red glow on the water. And the yellow horizon was the last gasp of western sunlight, even thought it was after 11pm.
